Help Your Students Choose the Right Baton
Neidlinger, Erica J.
Teaching Music, v14 n5 p50-53 Apr 2007
How to choose the right conducting baton is a mystery to many music educators, especially young teachers who are less experienced on the podium. The selection of batons has grown dramatically, and a wide variety of materials, shapes, sizes, and even colors are available. Choosing the right baton requires finding a personal fit. In this article, the author discusses how teachers can help their students select the right baton. She also discusses the factors that can aid in the selection process: (1) length; (2) balance; (3) weight; (4) shaft; and (5) handle.
