Michigan Early Adolescent Survey: Final Report.
Keith, Joanne; And Others
This document contains the final report from the Michigan Early Adolescent Survey, a study undertaken to: (1) develop a profile of Michigan early adolescents that focused on out-of-school time and included biological, psychological, and sociological information; (2) develop a profile of families which included early adolescents; (3) assess the developmental needs of Michigan early adolescents and their families; (4) identify how early adolescents used their out-of-school time and how they would like to use it; and (5) gain information related to specific 4-H Youth Programs topics. Data presented in the report are results of a state-wide survey of 304 early adolescents and their parents conducted in 1983. Descriptive findings are reported on self-esteem, self-management, career exploration, sex role attitudes, and stress and coping. In relation to the early adolescent in the family, findings are reported on the topics of family communication, relationships, time and activities, parental expectations for early adolescents, and parental needs for help with teaching their youth skills. Topics related to outside of school activities are after school care, youth groups, out-of-school classes, and television. The last section gives the findings on early adolescents and handicappers, school, pets, and snacks and nutrition. (NB)
