The Matrix Project is a program that has been established in central Scotland with the aim of reducing the risk of offending and anti-social behavior among vulnerable children. The project provides a range of services to children between eight and 11 years of age who are at risk in the local authority areas of Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling. It builds upon well-established working relationships between the local authorities and other relevant agencies and adopts an evidence-based approach to the services provided. The objective of the work undertaken by Matrix is to reduce the risk factors associated with offending and anti-social behavior and promote those factors which provide children with resilience in the face of these risks. This report provides an account of the Matrix Projects work over a period of almost two years. The research on which it is based included: the collection of information about children and their families from project files; interviews with project staff, with representatives of agencies who have contact with vulnerable children and with children referred to Matrix and their parents; and the observation of referral meetings.
