The paper reports on a followup study of the work adjustment of 43 mildly retarded adolescents who had undergone training in social and work skills at the Granville Work Preparation Centre in Australia. Among the findings were that 40% of the Ss had a history of full open employment, with no unemployment at all, since leaving the Center; that 21% had been fully employed in sheltered workshops with no unemployment periods since leaving the Center; and that 7 Ss had only maintained employment for between 14-33% of their potential employment time since leaving the Center. It was also found that the majority of the Ss had been employed in one or two jobs, that none had gained jobs of high skill level rankings, and that only two had undergone additional formal training since leaving the Center. Additional findings include that appropriate work attitudes and habits seemed well established, that more problems on the job appeared to be related to speed rather than accuracy, and that there was an overall tendency for Ss to seek help from others rather than to solve problems themselves.
