Designing Games for Sport Education: Curricular Models
Holt, Brett
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v18 n4 p25-27 Mar-Apr 2005
Sports Education is becoming a popular alternative curricular model in physical education, opposing the more traditional Multi-activity model. Physical education classes are slowly changing to include sport education. The change comes with the support of the community in the form of Sport Education in Physical Education Program (SEPEP). However, the change to include sport Education is slower for a reason that physical educators have varied values about what should be included in the curriculum. This article offers physical educators ways to combine Games for Understanding and Child Design Games with the Sport Education curriculum. The Sport Education curriculum model was developed to meet the students' needs and to facilitate learning true physical education objectives in the classroom. Here, the author describes the six key features to the model.
