The Investigation of Academicians' Learning Styles in School of Physical Education and Sports in Turkey

This study was carried out with the purpose of determining the academicians' learning styles in school of physical education and sports and whether there was a relationship between their learning styles and gender, age, appellation and the department they worked or not. In the study survey method that was used. The sample of the study consisted of 206 academicians who were working in public Schools of Physical Education and Sports (n=183) and Schools of Sport Science and Technology (n=23). "The Kolb Learning Styles Inventory" which was developed by Kolb (1985) and adapted to Turkish by Askar and Akkoyunlu (1993) was used as data collection tool. In the analysis of data, frequency and percentages were used, the relationships among variables were investigated with chi square statistical method. The level of significance was accepted as 0.05. The results revealed that, the academicians in the School of Physical Education and Sports had 47.6% converging, 30.1% assimilating, 11.7% diverging, 10.7% accommodating learning styles and there was no significant difference between their learning styles and gender, age, appellation and the department they worked (P greater than 0.05).
