Cooperative Learning and the Organization of Secondary Schools.
Shachar, Hanna; Sharan, Shlomo
School Effectiveness and School Improvement, v6 n1 p47-66 1995
Describes the interrelationship between school organization and classroom instructional style. Characterizes the bureaucratic and the open systems models of school organization in terms of three major dimensions of school life: administrator, teacher, and student behaviors; work design and tasks; and space-time allocations. The bureaucratic organization model parallels and sustains the whole-class instructional method; an open-systems model is required to sustain cooperative learning. (MLH)
