Establishing Early Childhood Workshops on Reducing Children's Vulnerability after Divorce: A Family Educational Program.
Schein, Sally
Implemented at a community center, this practicum developed an educational program which informed parents and teachers of ways to help children progress during and after divorce. Specific goals were: (1) to implement an educational program for parents, children, and teachers that focused on reducing the effects of divorce on children; (2) to sensitize parents to the importance of their role and to discuss ways in which they could contribute to their children's development after divorce; (3) to establish a program for children of divorce which would assist them in resolving feelings which interfered with coping; and (4) to assist teachers in their work with children of divorced parents. Practicum evaluation data indicated that the intervention was effective. The text of the practicum report provides an extensive discussion of alternative approaches to the problem, a description of solutions chosen for implementation, and a report of action taken. Nine pages of references are listed. Related materials are appended, including a structured questionnaire for children and administration booklets for two versions of Burkes' Behavior Rating Scales.
