Financial Success for Young Adults and Recent Graduates: Managing Money, Credit, and Your Future
Arrowood, Janet C.
Rowman & Littlefield Education
There are numerous financial planning and money management handbooks, but few focus on the needs of young adults between 16 and 25 years of age. Colleges and some high schools are increasingly offering courses covering money management, but the materials are more "economics-focused" than "real-world" focused. Young people are huge consumers who want what they want, when they want it, but many have not been taught the value of planning and accumulation to reach their goals. Two of the most valuable things a good money management book should present are the time-value of money and associated compounding and the true concept of credit. This book offers both. Case studies are also included. "Financial Success for Young Adults and Recent Graduates" will be useful to students, parents, teachers, and financial advisors. This book consists of the following 19 parts: (1) The Basics; (2) What's in It for You; (3) A Brief History of Money and Credit; (4) What Affects the Value of Your Money? (5) What Is Credit? How Do You Manage Credit?; (6) Protecting Your Credit, Yourself, and Your Credit Rating; (7) Life Is Very Taxing; (8) Getting (and Losing) a Job; (9) Managing Your Money: The Basics; (10) Getting and Paying for an Education; (11) Maximizing Your Ability to Get Financial Aid: At Any Age; (12) Living within Your Means; (13) Saving and Investing; (14) Understanding, Obtaining, and Managing Personal Insurance; (15) Putting the Pieces Together; (16) Let's Merge; (17) Employer-Provided or -Sponsored Benefit Plans; (18) Planning for Major Purchases without Breaking the Bank; and (19) Starting a Business. Appended are: (1) Glossary; (2) Useful Forms and Documents; and (3) Answers to Practice Problems. ["Financial Success for Young Adults and Recent Graduates" was co-published with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.]
