McDermott, Paul D.; And Others
This compilation of reprinted articles that originally appeared in the Journal of Geography from September 1969 through the May 1970 issues, is intended to help teachers use globes, maps, and photographs with skill and understanding. The articles were designed with several objectives in mind: 1) to provide information regarding the design, construction, and use of maps, globes, and photographs; 2) to present suggestions as to how these visual media may be applied to develop a better understanding of geographic concepts and phenomena; 3) to furnish a list of sources for further reading and guidance, and 4) to acquaint the teacher with some of the current products available from private and governmental agencies. Articles are: Geographic Graphics, by Paul McDermott; The Globe, by William McKinney; What is a Map?, by Paul McDermott; The Elements of a Map, by Richard Dahlberg; Maps in the Classroom, by Barbara S. Bartz; Sources of Map Instruction, by Charles F. Gritzner; New Development in Educational Cartography, by William A. Dando, et al.; Terrestrial, Aerial, and Satellite Photographs, by Donald Bushman and Richard G. Silvernail; and, Photographs in the Classroom, by Paul F. Griffin. (Author/JLB)
