Developmental Coordination Disorder: Issues, Identification, and Intervention
Clark, Jane E.; Smiley-Oyen, Ann L.; Getchell, Nancy; Whitall, Jill
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v76 n4 p49 Apr 2005
Children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) constitute approximately six percent of the population, or about two children out of a class of 35. Often referred to as "clumsy" or physically awkward, children with DCD are generally academically able, but have movement difficulties that affect their progress in academics and in activities of daily living. This article provides information about DCD, a definition of DCD, as well as guidance on how to identify children with DCD. Most importantly, the article offers ways to intervene to help these children improve their movement capabilities.
