The Partnership for Family Involvement in Education is a grassroots initiative to increase opportunities for families to be more involved with their children's learning at school and at home, to strengthen schools, and to improve student achievement levels. This CD-ROM from the Partnership contains materials and resources on family involvement in education. The materials include overheads in Microsoft PowerPoint 7.0 and HTML publications and resources with examples of effective practices. Four areas or "sectors" in the Partnership are covered. The first sector, Family School Organizations, includes "A Compact for Learning: An Action Handbook for Family-School-Community Partnerships"; questions parents ask about schools; and safe and smart after-school programs. The second sector, Employers for Learning, includes "Getting Ready for College Early: A Handbook for Parents of Students in the Middle and Junior High School Years"; a business guide to support employee and family involvement in education; and a business guide for implementing strategic education partnerships. The third sector, Faith Communities, includes materials on how faith communities support children's learning in public schools; "Public Schools and Religious Communities: A First Amendment Guide"; and teachers' and parents' guides to religion in the public schools. The fourth sector, Community Organizations, includes "Bringing Education to After-School Programs"; and a parent's guide to the Internet. All four sectors include materials on fathers' involvement in their children's schools, a guide for establishing mentoring programs to prepare youth for college, and a guide for family visits to museums.
