History of Christian Education in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Williams, Westwick A.
Journal of Research on Christian Education, v19 n3 p261-285 2010
This research highlights the role various Christian denominations play in the introduction and development of formal education from the emancipation of slaves to independence in the former British West Indian colony of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Although the details are Vincentian, the pattern is Caribbean--and, in some respects, global--being characteristic of the culture and governance within the British Empire. The study organizes SVG educational history into four eras: the 19th century, 1900-1950, 1950-2000, and the 21st century. This study shows how Christian education has been an inexorable component of the larger educational landscape of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for 200 years. (Contains 1 figure.)
