Educator's Guide to Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
Texas State Dept. of Health, Austin.
This document contains an educational resource guide designed to help educators provide relevant education about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) to secondary school students in compliance with the Texas State Board of Education Rules for Curriculum. The guide, taking a pragmatic approach that emphasizes a prevention/intervention strategy, attempts to provide information which will assist students in grades 7 through 12 in making realistic decisions cocerning responsible sexual behavior. It consists of five major concept areas, each with behavioral goals, student objectives, and activities. The five concepts are: (1) what STDs are; (2) how STDs are spread; (3) avoiding STDs; (4) recognizing an STD infection; and (5) getting STD treatment. Student activity sheets, a pre-post test, and an STD summary sheet are included. A resources section lists the most frequently asked questions and answers about STDs for each of the five concepts, provides a glossary of terms, and describes a variety of health materials available through the Texas Department of Health.
