Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World): Handbook for Volunteers.
Peace Corps, Washington, DC. Information Collection and Exchange Div.
Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) began in Romania in 1995 as a weeklong leadership camp with the purpose of encouraging young women to become active citizens by building their self-esteem and confidence, increasing their self-awareness, and developing their skills in goal-setting, assertiveness, and career and life planning. Since that first camp, Peace Corps has actively supported Camp GLOW in other Peace Corps countries. Previous and current volunteers' experiences serve as the basis for this handbook, providing examples for different posts and suggestions of activities and tips for organizing a camp. The handbook is organized in chronological order in terms of planning a Camp GLOW with chapters on planning, logistics, activities for implementation, applications of the camp, and taking the experience home. Included with the handbook is a diskette that contains the text and all of the appendices. The appendices include materials such as camp applications, invitations, and certificates, which may serve as a template for the paperwork surrounding a camp. (Contains 13 appendices.)
