Russian: Advanced Course. Advanced Grammar, Lessons 1-24.
Defense Language Inst., Washington, DC.
This volume of an advanced Russian course designed by the Defense Language Institute seeks to develop a more comprehensive knowledge of the structural features of Russian and an enlarged vocabulary. The learning accomplished orally in class is reinforced in written exercises at home. Instructional materials concentrate on morphology, syntax, and punctuation. Morphological elements considered include verbs of motion, numerals, indefinite pronouns and adverbs, word formation, suffixes forming abstract and neuter nouns, and the formation of adjectives. Syntactic features described include demonstrative and personal pronouns, imperatives, conjunctions, and adverbial and subordinate clauses. Word division is also considered in the section on pronunciation. Cyrillic script is used exclusively in this volume. Cartoons are used frequently to illustrate the dialogues. (RL)
