Energy Projects for Young Scientists.
Gardner, Robert
Energy is a vital topic. Energy costs have risen dramatically during the last decade and home owners are concerned about their energy bills and the costs associated with heating or cooling their homes. An understanding of energy, its sources and ways to reduce its use or improve the efficiency with which people use it will become more important as some of the world's fossil fuel resources approach depletion in the years to come. The purpose of this book is to provide ideas for science projects related to energy. It is designed to help students learn the scientific method as well as proceed with research and set up projects. Chapters include: (1) "Science Projects and Fairs"; (2) "Energy, Work, Power and Efficiency"; (3) "Heat and Thermal Energy"; (4) "Electrical Energy"; (5)"Energy of Motion and Position"; (6) "Solar Energy"; and (7) "Saving Energy at Home and School." A list of selected readings is included. Appendices provide "R Values of Various Materials" and "Specific Heats of Some Common Substances." (CW)
