Using the Institutional Database to Examine Student Diversity by School
Cerrito, Patricia B.; Hook, Arnold
College Student Journal, v40 n3 p664-669 Sep 2006
While it is common to report the percentage of minority and female students attending universities, it is rare to perform a detailed examination of the overall composition of the student body, particularly, the proportion of International students. It is the purpose of this study to examine the proportion of International Students by School from Spring, 2001 to Fall, 2004. Data were taken from the University's registration database. The dip in enrollment caused by 9/11 is clearly visible, especially for Medical School students. The distribution of International students is not uniform across academic units; it is most prominent in the professional schools. Universities need to examine the impact of International enrollment upon the campus culture. (Contains 7 figures.)
