Day Care Infection Control Protocol.
Seattle-King County Dept. of Public Health, Seattle, WA.
This day care infection control manual was assembled to provide technical guidance for the prevention and control of communicable diseases to child day care facilities in Seattle and King County, Washington. For each disease, the manual provides background information, public health control recommendations, and letters that can be used to disseminate information about the disease to parents. Introductory sections briefly (1) describe licensed day care facilities and roles of day care personnel involved in infection control; (2) list illnesses differing in severity and reportability status; (3) discuss immunization law; (4) provide an immunization schedule; and (5) offer recommendations for the immunization of caregivers. The 36 illnesses described include acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), chickenpox, conjunctivitis, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, herpes simplex, lice, measles (rubeola), meningococcal disease, mononucleosis, mumps, pertussis, pinworms, poliomyelitis, ringworm, rubella, salmonellosis, scabies, streptococcal infections (streptococcal sore throat and scarlet fever), and tuberculosis. Four reference guides to the control of communicable disease are listed. (RH)
