University of California, Irvine, Student Affirmative Action Five-Year Plan and Planning Process, 1984-1988. Volume I.
Galligani, Dennis J.
This first volume of the University of California, Irvine, (UCI) Student Affirmative Action (SAA) Five-Year Plan provides an overview of the plan and the planning process, lists campus SAA goals and objectives, summarizes campus SAA activities, and describes the research and evaluation components of the plan. Topics include: the historical context in which the SAA plan was developed, the ongoing planning process, qualitative and quantitative goals affecting implementation of the plan, and objectives that focus programmatic responses from units and allow measurement of progress toward these goals. The goals cover outreach, enrollment, retention, and graduation and cover topics such as academic preparation, career development, and social environment. Programmatic responses to the SAA goals and objectives from 22 administrative and 11 academic units are summarized. Affirmative action activities of the academic senate SAA committee are covered, along with the SAA plans of the Division of Graduate Studies and Research and the UCI-California College of Medicine. Evaluation focuses on progress toward goals and research will focus on the nature of underrepresentation of minority students. A glossary of SAA terms is appended. (SW)
