Both microfilm readers and reader-printers (RRP) for cartridge, roll, microfiche, and aperture card use are evaluated in this report. A method of selection is described which uses a seven-step procedure. The first step for a user is to fill out his requirements on a form which is provided in the report. The second step is to review the specification and evaluation sheets on each model that are provided in the report in order to find those which conform most closely to his requirements. Each specification and evaluation sheet contains the following information: manufacturer, model number, loading and image location specifications, optics, print capability, physical characteristics, and costs. Each RRP is also evaluated for three basic functions--find, read, and print--and for certain ease of use and convenience factors. Selection and evaluation sheets are given for those RRPs which are, or have been, marketed in the United States. Prototypes, older models, and unique systems are included along with the evaluated models in a cross-reference index. The final steps in the selection procedure are to observe demonstrations of the candidate models and to have these models reviewed by an in-house group before final selection. (JY)
