Discussion of the role of the broadcast journalist in foreign affairs news is divided into four parts in this volume: (1) "The Correspondent" deals with the group characteristics of foreign correspondents and their role conceptions, (2) "Gathering the News" examines the correspondent;s view of the mechanical constraints and structural characteristics of television, and analyzes the process of reporting the television news story. (3) "Composing the News Broadcast" discusses the television producer and examines the selection and composition of the daily broadcast. (4) "Impact and Political Consequences of Television News" deals with the importance of television with regard to the informed public and political calculation and action. Appendixes include an interview schedule for television journalism, a sample data sheet for biographical information, a sample ABC evening news lineup, and a bibliography. (KS)
