Freado, Mark D.; Wille, A. Katherine
Reclaiming Children and Youth: The Journal of Strength-based Interventions, v16 n3 p36-40 Fall 2007
Robert, a fifteen-year-old resident in a residential treatment program, was diagnosed with significant hearing impairment. He communicates primarily through American Sign Language, although he speaks relatively well and has some hearing ability. Katie, a youth worker who has participated in Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) training, worked with Robert. This article describes the seven stages of the LSCI process that Robert experienced through Katie's supervision. The LSCI process include the following stages: (1) De-escalation; (2) Timeline; (3) The central issue and diagnosis; (4) The insight stage; (5) The new skills stage; and (6) Transfer of training.
