Financing the Sport Enterprise
Sawyer, Thomas H.; Hypes, Michael G.; Hypes, Julia Ann
Sagamore Publishing LLC
This book is intended to provide students in sport management curricula and professional practitioners with the first comprehensive survey coverage of the many traditional and innovative aspects of financial management. The focus of this text is on the basis of financial management including but not limited to diversification of revenue, acquisition of revenue resources, financial management, auditing, sponsorships, licensing, franchises, fundraising, and more. We believe the material in this text is different from what has appeared in other general finance texts. This text is aimed at upper division and graduate students in professional preparation curricula in sport management. Much of the information has been tested in our own classes. It has been revised in response to student feedback. Further, we believe this would be a useful book for practitioners in the field. After the Dedication; Acknowledgments; and Forward, the book is divided into six parts. Part I, Foundations of Sport Finance, contains the first two chapters: (1) The ABC?s of Economics: A Layman?s Overview; and (2) Organizing the Sport Enterprise. Part II, Financial Accountability and Planning, provides the next set of chapters: (3) Financial Accountability and Analysis; (4) Financial Planning; and (5) Purchasing. Part III, Financial Development, contains the next set of chapters: (6) Understanding the Revenue Streams; (7) Sponsorships; (8) Licensing; and (9) The Franchise Game. Part IV, Sales Operations, offers the next chapters: (10) Box Office Operations; (11) Retail Operations; (12) Customer Retention: A Key to Financial Stability; (13) Outsourcing Services. Part V, Fundraising, provides chapters: (14) Fundamentals of Fundraising; (15) Committees: Critical Tools in Fundraising; (16) Techniques for Successful Grant Seeking; (17) The Booster Club; (18) Volunteers: The Soldiers in Fundraising and Game Management; and Part VI, Financial Risk Management, contains the final chapters: (19) InsurancAn Index; and About the Authors are also provided.
