Pereira, Carolyn; Chavkin, Nisan
Social Education, v72 n5 p236, 238-245 Sep 2008
The writ of habeas corpus has been a critical tool for balancing the rights of individuals with the government's responsibility to protect the nation's welfare. In this article, the authors discuss the writ of habeas corpus and how it affects the federal government and hundreds of prisoners who are held as enemy combatants. Elementary, middle, and high school lessons that will explore the significance of this right are presented. (Contains 16 notes.)
