Young Gifted Children: Intensities and Creativity
Howard, Diana
Understanding Our Gifted, v21 n3 p15-17 Spr 2009
How do educators create and nurture environments that respect and meet the developmental needs of gifted children? They know that many young bright youngsters exhibit intense sensitivities from birth, ask many probing questions, and are often verbally sophisticated beyond their years. They may have exceptionally long attention spans within their own interest areas, seek interaction with adults and older children, store large amounts of information on topics of passion, and be very creative. For parents and educators, there are many questions and concerns. Adults must find school programs that nurture the thirst for knowledge and out of the box thinking of these unique children, offering the freedom needed for growth. To do this, parents listen and observe. These young people can give them the information they need to provide what they require.
