American Association of College and University Business Officers: A History.
Welzenbach, Lanora F.
The history of the American Association of College and University Business Officers is traced. After describing the historical background leading to formation of the association, different periods are covered, including the first or formative years (1939-1941), World War II, the postwar period, the decade of the 1950s, and the decade of the 1960s until dissolution in 1967. The association began in 1939 as the Association of Business Officers in Schools for Negroes. It was composed of predominantly black institutions, beginning with 25 charter members. At the time of its dissolution there were more than 60 members, and at least 82 institutions had held membership at some time during the association's 28 years. When the association was dissolved, its members were encouraged to seek membership in one of the regional associations of business officers. Appendices provide: a statement of the association's purpose, a list of charter members, a list of all institutions that were members, information on officers during 1939-1967, bylaws, the text of the dissolution resolution, a list of members of the association who became college or university presidents, and a description of the Minority Institutions Committee of the National Association of College and University Business Officers.
