Epidemiology of Trauma: Frequency and Impact of Different Potentially Traumatic Events on Different Demographic Groups.
Norris, Fran H.
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, v60 n3 p409-18 Jun 1992
Examined frequency/impact of 10 potentially traumatic events among 1,000 adults. Tragic death occurred most often, sexual assault yielded highest rate of posttraumatic stress disorder, and motor vehicle crash presented most adverse combination of frequency and impact. Lifetime exposure was higher among whites and men than among African Americans and women; past-year exposure was highest among younger adults. (Author/NB)
