Asian Pacific American Mental Health Needs for the Future.
Okura, K. Patrick
Recommendations made by a Special Subpanel on Mental Health of Asian and Pacific Americans of the President's Commission on Mental Health are discussed in this paper. The subpanel determined that racism is the most pervasive mental health problem confronting Asian and Pacific Americans. The nine recommendations made by the subpanel focus on social issues. The subpanel proposed that Federal mental health policies reflect acknowledgment of the unique cultures of Asian and Pacific Americans, that economic security be ensured to all Americans, that Federal regulations reflect non-racist and equitable treatment of minority groups, that Asian and Pacific Americans be given the opportunity to participate in decision making for mental health policy, and that bilingual and bicultural services be made available to Asian and Pacific Americans.
