The Relationships between Collegiate DECA Commitment, Mentoring and College Students' Perceived Career Commitment
Duke, Linda
ProQuest LLC, D.Mgt. Dissertation, Webster University
This study investigated relationships between student's Collegiate DECA commitment, psychological capital, mentoring, and perceived career commitment. Proposed relationships were supported with several psychological theories and frameworks including Organizational Commitment, Psychological Capital, and Social Identity Theory. Data was collected from collegiate DECA students competing at a national level and the results indicated that a significant relationship exists between collegiate DECA commitment and perceived career commitment as well as between psychological capital and perceived career commitment. In addition, findings indicate that tenure moderates the relationship between psychological capital and perceived future career commitment. This study underscores the importance of membership in extracurricular student organizations such as collegiate DECA and how these experiences may affect the direction of student career choices.
