The basic study presents complete descriptions of the indexes together with the index values and price data for fiscal years 1961 through 1974. It includes a discussion of index number theory and computation, explains the uses and limitations of price indexes, and describes the effects of inflation on "real expenditures" for current operations, research and development, and physical plant additions. The basic study should be consulted for the complete technology of index theory and design, and for earlier price series listings.
