A Guidebook for Teaching Creative Writing.
Stanford, Gene; Smith, Marie
This guidebook provides the classroom teacher with ideas and resources for teaching creative writing at the secondary level. For each type of writing that is discussed, instructional objectives, notes for teachers' presentations of new concepts, classroom activities, discussion questions, small-group activities, projects, individual assignments, annotated lists of materials, and sample evaluation materials are described. Chapters deal with the principles of teaching creative writing, stimulating students to write, teaching them to create images of objects, people, and events, and analyzing and writing about the creative efforts of others. Appendixes provide addresses of producers of resources and present 39 reproduction pages which span such topics as labeling, describing an event for a purpose, close reading of novels, and the sounds of poetry. Samples of student writing are also included. (KS)
