Site-Seeing on the Information Superhighway. An Internet Guide for Marketing Educators.
Everett, Donna R.
This guide focuses on learning about and teaching with the Internet in marketing education. Section 1 on preparing teachers to go online focuses on the Internet as a place to talk, get information, and organize and put information. It covers needed hardware and software, controversial facts about the Internet, and acceptable use policy. Section 2 provides exercises in worksheet format that introduce the teacher to the Internet, its electronic tools, and sources of information and ideas. Written to the student as preparation for online contact, section 3 is a "driving manual" designed to give the student driver guidance for preparing for Internet driving and knowledge on what to expect while on the superhighway. At the end of the section is a two-part "driving test." The first part is a written examination dealing with electronic mail and discussion lists; the second is a skills test, using the treasure hunt format to locate information on the Internet. Section 4 provides lesson plans that will support and enhance student learning using online resources. They cover a variety of marketing subjects and focus on the current marketing education student learning outcomes. Each includes an anticipatory set, objectives, materials, procedures, closure, and addresses of Internet resources that may help provide content for the lesson. A resources section lists Internet addresses used in the guide and 19 print resources. Copies of Classroom Connect and The ERIC Review issue on K-12 computer networking are attached. (YLB)
