Guide to Producing Print Materials.
Far West Lab. for Educational Research and Development, San Francisco, CA.
This is a simple how-to-do it manual intended to help projects that wish to produce print materials. It highlights the stages involved in producing print materials, giving an overview of the steps required and offering hints on different approaches to the various processes. The manual begins with the comprehensive layout (dummy) stage and proceeds through proofreading, typesetting and/or typewriting, mechanicals (pasteup), selection of paper and ink, printing, and finishing and binding. The processes of writing and editing the text, preparing illustrations, obtaining copyright, pricing, and distributing the final product are not included. Less expensive and more expensive procedures are noted along the way. Charts detail the functions involved at each stage, key deadlines, major printing processes, folding styles, finishing operations, and binding styles. (Author/JEG)
