Studied the relationship between academic and practical intelligence in a sample of 85 young adolescents in a village in rural Kenya. Scores on a test of tacit knowledge correlated trivially or significantly negatively with measures of academic intelligence and achievement. Among these villagers, time spent on academic skills may be observed as time taken away from practical skills. (ALS)
