Investigation of a Reinforcement-Based Toilet Training Procedure for Children with Autism.
Cicero, Frank R.; Pfadt, Al
Research in Developmental Disabilities, v23 n5 p319-31 Sep-Oct 2002
This study evaluated the effectiveness of a reinforcement-based toilet training intervention with three children with autism. Procedures included positive reinforcement, graduated guidance, scheduled practice trials, and forward prompting. All three children reduced urination accidents to zero and learned to request bathroom use spontaneously within 7-11 days of training. Gains were maintained over 6-month and 1-year follow-ups.
