Using the Adventure Model to Teach about Diversity and Tolerance
Latess, Dennis R.; Walker, Richard L.
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v24 n3 p29-32 Jan-Feb 2011
There are a variety of curricular approaches in physical education, any one of which can provide a framework and scheme that is the foundation of a physical education unit of study. This article will discuss the use of an adventure model to teach about diversity, multi-cultural understanding and tolerance. Teaching children diversity and tolerance issues is important in today's society and teaching through the adventure model is a powerful means by which to accomplish this goal. In addition, the adventure model can be a powerful way to teach and reinforce issues regarding personal and social responsibility. (Contains 1 figure and 1 table.)
