Converting the Audience: A Conversation with Agnes Wilcox
Becker, Becky
Feminist Teacher: A Journal of the Practices, Theories, and Scholarship of Feminist Teaching, v16 n3 p225-237 2006
This article presents a conversation with Agnes Wilcox, Executive Director of Prison Performing Arts in St. Louis, Missouri, about Prison Performing Arts. Although the average person might balk at the notion of interacting with prison inmates, finding it intimidating, worrisome, or self-sacrificial, for Wilcox, Prison Performing Arts is a practical solution to a frequently overlooked social problem. Among other things, Wilcox relates her experience working with incarcerated people and explains how she started the program. (Contains 13 notes.)
