Since 2002, the University Evaluation Task Force of China University Alumni Association Network (CUAA), "University Weekly" and "21st Century Talent Report" have made joint efforts in the evaluation of higher education institutions in China. Compared with the ranking in 2007, China's University Ranking in the 2008 report is different mainly due to the adjustments of its evaluation index scheme. For example, the "Report on Outstanding Chinese Social Scientists in 2007" was brought into consideration, and the index of "Outstanding Social Scientist" was added into the scheme and given the same weight as "Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences or Chinese Academy of Engineering." These measures aim to counteract the trend of "emphasizing natural sciences over humanities and social sciences" in current university rankings in China. In the meantime, indexes including "China Patent Award" and "Publications in "Nature" and "Science"" were added into the index of research in science to fully reflect the basic research and the capability of converting research to productive power. Besides China's University Ranking for 2008, the "2008 CUAA Chinese University Evaluation and Research Report" includes the University Rankings for Contributions in Science 2008, which is divided into university rankings in knowledge innovation and technological innovation. The knowledge innovation rankings consist of "University Ranking of National Awards in Natural Science 2008" and "University Ranking of Publications in "Nature" and Science,"" while the technological innovation rankings include "University Ranking of National Technological Invention Awards 2008," "University Ranking of National Science and Technology Advancement Award 2008," and "University Ranking of China Patent Award's Gold Award 2008."
