Copeland, Anne P.
Kappa Delta Pi Record, v43 n2 p66-70 Win 2007
This article discusses how U.S. teachers can pick up on cultural cues from parents with roots in other countries and help smooth their children's transition to U.S. classrooms. In this article, the author presents a scenario where a U.S. teacher welcomed parents with roots form other countries into her classroom. Here, she discusses the importance of parental involvement for these international parents. She also talks about individualism and egalitarianism. Finally, she presents some tips that can help bridge the cultural gap and keep a solid foundation of support for the children while they learn to master new sets of expectations. (Contains 1 table.)
