Motives for Taking Orphan Children into a Foster (Guardian) Family
Kozlova, T. Z.
Russian Education and Society, v55 n9 p68-83 Sep 2013
Research in Russia on the opinions of guardians and experts of the department of guardianship examines the motives that people have for taking orphan children into their homes. The data indicate that about 80 percent of the guardians are grandmothers taking care of their grandchildren, whose parents have been stripped of their parental rights. Other motives for taking children in include the following: having no children of their own, a desire to have more children in the home, or a desire to have a child of the opposite sex.
