Administrative Procedures Manual for Instructional Program in Medical Vocabulary and Medical Chart Abstracting for Tumor Registrars. Revised 1972.
Human Resources Research Organization, Alexandria, VA.
The manual provides the information required to administer the training program. The first three sections describe: (1) the requirements for and objectives of the tumor registrar training program; (2) the format (incorporating programed instruction and self-scoring practical exercises), student evaluation techniques, and contents of the self-contained, 10-part correspondence course; and (3) the preparation and field test of the initial version of the training program. Information on general administrative procedures and distribution of Instructional Packages (IPs) is contained in section 4. Section 5 lists other training and exercise materials, indicating how they should be distributed with the instructional packages. Criterion test scoring procedures for the examinations in each IP, as well as a key and guidance for use in scoring the practical exercises that require students to abstract sample medical charts, are provided in section 6. In section 7, there is a scoring key for each of the 10 criterion tests in the program. The final section presents the rationale for the design and utilization of tumor registry abstract forms and includes lists of items of information for cancer registries. Appended are the table of contents for IPs one through ten and for the Tumor Registrar Handbook, and a copy of the Tumor Registry Abstract Form (Detailed Version). (Author/MS)
