Two studies were conducted on the availability of full-time faculty during their posted office hours. In the first, we surveyed students and faculty at a single university on their estimates of the percentage of faculty present during office hours. Students ("N" = 380) and faculty ("N" = 176) estimated that 77% and 83% of faculty, respectively, were present during office hours. In the second study, we observed the physical presence of 221 faculty during office hours. 76% of faculty were present during their office hours. Discussion centers on faculty and students' disparate perceptions of office hours, limitations of these studies, and future directions for research.
