Commentary on "Psychiatric Aspects of Child and Adolescent Obesity: A Review of the Past 10 Years"
Fitzgibbon, Marian L.
Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, v43 n2 p151 Feb 2004
This article is a brief review of child and adolescent obesity over the past ten years. The starting point for the review is the well-known fact that there has been a dramatic rise in the prevalence of obesity among children, adolescents, and adults in the United Sates (Ogden et al., 2002). The rise has occurred across all age and ethnic groups, and among both men and women (Ogden et al., 2002). Zametkin and colleagues' review highlights the need for future research on why some, but not all, obese individuals are susceptible to the development of symptoms.
