The Character of a Coach: Success Depends on Trustworthiness
Psencik, Kay
Journal of Staff Development, v36 n1 p52-57 Feb 2015
This article describes the role of coach as one that would nurture and build trust in their organization, allow others to see the coach as trustworthy, and build positive energy in the organization. The author offers some qualities that contribute to this trustworthy position, such as: self-awareness, honesty, sincerity, competence, reliability, and the ability to be other-centered. Positive, high levels of trust in relationships with others and in organizations produce joy, effortless communication, transparent relationships, and high levels of energy dividends. Effective coaches strive to constantly earn dividends with those they coach, however great coaching is an art that requires skill with questions and changing assumptions. Coaches could use a good tool to assist with acquiring these skill sets, and will appreciate the handy included item: "Philosophy of Coaching."
