The Design Features of the National Writing Project's New Teacher Initiative

This report describes the key design features of the new teacher support programs that emerged from the National Writing Project (NWP) New Teacher Initiative (NTI). As the New Teacher Initiative unfolded, a number of design features appeared frequently and consistently across the sites. This report explains how these design features of the NTI are linked to the larger National Writing Project culture in which the New Teacher Initiative resides. Discussion of each feature includes how it expresses the values and principles of the NWP, and how the design feature meets the criteria for high-quality new teacher support programs recommended by the most recent research and policy advocacy reports.
