Fathers' Involvement in Children's Learning: Tool Kit. [CD-ROM].
Partnership for Family Involvement in Education (ED), Washington, DC.
The Partnership for Family Involvement in Education is a grassroots initiative to increase opportunities for families to participate in their children's learning at school and at home, to strengthen schools, and to improve student achievement levels. This compact disk from the Partnership contains materials and resources on fathers' involvement in children's learning. Included on the disk are overheads in Microsoft PowerPoint 7.0, a QuickTime videoclip from a teleconference hosted by U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna E. Shalala, and HTML publications and resources with examples of effective practices. Tools for involving fathers include a discussion guide for viewing the broadcast "Fathers Matter! Involving Fathers in Children's Learning"; a report on involving non-resident fathers in children's learning; and innovative Head Start approaches to father involvement. Materials for working with Hispanic/Latino fathers include the Web site home page of the National Latino Fatherhood and Family Institute, and an ERIC Digest on Hispanic parent involvement in early childhood programs. Research articles on how fathers matter include issue briefs on father involvement and student achievement, and factors associated with fathers' and mothers' involvement in their children's schools.
