The Administrative Power Grab
Sorenson, Richard D.
School Administrator, v64 n6 p34 Jun 2007
Administrative power for some school teachers can be an aphrodisiac that can be applied negatively, especially when a leader has devastating instinct for the weaknesses of others. A leader's intellect and heart closes shop and ceases to function when drunk on power. In this article, the author describes how the use of administrative power can be compared to muscle-building such as power lifting. The author also describes how a school leader, much like a body builder, can positively use power as it relates to power gym concepts, such as continuous tension, peak contraction, holistic training, partial reps, power boosters, the complete workout, cooling down and fit as a fiddle, to create a learning environment that benefits all participants.
