This research study sought to identify the successful strategies used by teachers in high performing, high poverty schools to address the needs of economically disadvantaged students. The study examined teacher perceptions, motivation factors, and instructional strategies as they relate to the improvement of the academic progress of economically disadvantaged students. The researcher used quantitative and qualitative data to identify the strategies thought to be the most effective in cultivating successful academic performance. Although there were no significant differences in teacher perceptions, common instructional strategies were identified.
