Monetary Incentives and the Reform of Teacher Compensation: A Persistent Organizational Dilemma.
Jacobson, Stephen L.
International Journal of Educational Reform, v4 n1 p29-35 Jan 1995
Examines conflicting values underlying debates about teacher compensation reform, highlighting a persistent dilemma: although school systems use monetary incentives to motivate teachers, they really do not want teachers who are primarily motivated by money. Examines teacher workforce composition, teacher values, and the history of merit pay. Some teachers' desire for more time instead of money contradicts society's work ethic. (45 references) (MLH)
